The Haunted Room - Room 6

I was fortunate enough to work at the Drovers Inn between June 05 to Nov 06, so ive got quite a few stories of strange ghostly things happening while I was there, but this is one that stood out for me.

Room 6 - The Haunted Room... says it all. Now to get a feel for this room, it had a bedroom, and a door which leads to the ensuite. This room is always cold - no matter how high you put up the heating. There are no cracks or gaps in the windows. It is completely sealed, yet very chilly.

Ok, one morning I was asked to do some housekeeping (i was usually a bar tender, but was happy for a change for the day). I cleaned a few rooms and it was time for me to clean room 6. Now i dont believe in ghosts, so i was never too scared or concerned about this room. I switched both the room and ensuite lights on. The door to this room needs to be propped open with a chair, because it doesnt like being open. So with the door propped open with a large heavy chair, I started to vacuum..... next minute, the light in the ensuite turns off..... I wasnt too concerned, its an old building, so went over and switched it back on and kept vacuuming. After a minute i see out of the corner of my eye, the ensuite light turns off, back on, then off, then BANG - the door slams shut!!!!
There I am standing in the Haunted Room, door shut, no ensuite light, and im bloody freezing!
I thought, stuff this - picked up all my cleaning gear, hurried out of the room, and refused to clean that room ever again.

Now working there and seeing strange things, I always tried to find an explanation for things, some I did. I decided to talk to Brian the maintenance man that night to see if he was playing with the electricity, "nope" he says, "was down in Glasgow for the day, and theres nothin wrong with that light"....Thanks Brian. And I still dont have an explanation

last june myself and the missus stayed at the drovers whilst attending her cousin's wedding. the place is amazing but soooo creepy. the upstairs inn part's walls are covered in really badly painted portraits, so the people in them are all a little deformed, adding to the creepyness. the whole place is extremely atmospheric and i felt tense the whole time. then we went to our room (after enjoying their haggis burger, yummo) to find out it was room 6, the haunted room. now, i do not belive in anything spiritual, adamantly so, but i do have acontradictory dislike of the idea of experiencing ghosts. anyways...the room. it is painted dark red so the walls absorb a lot of light and the bed is between the window and the door. because its a four poster (coooo-el i know) it block the daylight coming from the window so 2 walls are dark becasue of this. then when the sun sets and you put the light on the top of the bed is almost touching it so the wall behind the bed gets no light either. there are 3 pictures on the wall, one in the bathroom of a creepy little girl, a painting which looks unfinished. i felt a little disrespectful looking her in the eye while i pissed. i didnt want to anger her. there are also 2 photos too. victorian era, one by the window of a family of 4 (i think) including a little girl. then the other photo is to the left of the door as you walk in and it of the same little girl, in a smock dress with a mangy looking dog whcih almost looks stuffed. this is the girl that supposedly haunts the room, who drownded in a stream behind the inn. people apparently wake up in bed with the corpse of a cold wet child alongside them. crreeeeepppppyyy. anyways, i tried to drink as much Gin as possible to knock me out when i finally went to bed and it sure beat my terror, but i still felt a little spooked...like i said i do not believe adamantly, but there was something about the place. obviously if youre told somewhere is haunted then you will psychologically be more open to fear in that place and i imagine a lot of it was in my head. the room was cold and it was a summers day...although my experience of stone houses or cottages is that they are very cool in summer. we were so creeped out that neither of us could sleep with our arms or legs outside bed (in case something touched us: in that psychological state you become hypersensitive) or look around once the light was off. becuase of this we woke up every hour sweating. yuck. also we could hear people running around outside the room all night which was odd, but could have been drunken guests being arseholes. arseholes with great endurance, or maybe on speed or ecstasy (sleep deprivation). we awoke in the morning feeling okay and i was glad i didnt experience anything. the second night was a little more bearable as the previous night nothing happened. then when we went home i felt bored with my bedroom at home and missed all the terrifying excitement. i wonder whats going on in that room right now. anyways...a lovely place (nasty midgies) and an extremely atmospheric hotel if you let your imagination run a wee bit.
